Are BUGS the key to feeding the world? Nearly 2 billion people around the world eat them on a regular basis – but North Americans have been a little slow to catch on to the trend. Come, hear from author Mary Boone (BUGS FOR BREAKFAST, Chicago Review Press) about which bugs are being eaten, where, and why. This family-friendly event invites attendees to do some taste-testing of their own. I ATE A BUG stickers for those up to trying roasted crickets or chocolate CHIRP cookies!
Mary Boone has ridden an elephant, jumped out of an airplane, hung out backstage with a boy band, and baked dozens of cricket cookies – all in the interest of research for her books and magazine articles. She’s written more than 65 nonfiction books for young readers. She has two picture books slated for publication in 2024: PEDAL PUSHER: How One Woman’s Bicycle Adventure Helped Changed the World (Henry Holt & Co.) and SCHOOL OF FISH (Albert Whitman & Co.) Mary and her husband, Mitch, live in Tacoma with a very stubborn Airedale terrier named Ruthie Bader.
